Parkwood skin clinic
Some symptoms do not fit neatly into a “skin condition” or a “muscle problem.”
This consultation is designed for localised, unexplained pain or discomfort associated with the skin, scars, fascia, or superficial soft tissues, where a clear medical assessment and decision are required.
This is a doctor-led diagnostic service with a defined endpoint. It is not an ongoing pain management program.
This service is appropriate if you have localised symptoms (one region or one side) such as:
Pain, tenderness, tightness, or burning in a specific area of skin or superficial soft tissue
Scar-related symptoms: pain, tethering, hypersensitivity, thickening, persistent discomfort after surgery or skin procedures
Symptoms following a procedure (excision, biopsy, laser, injections, cosmetic treatment) where things do not feel normal
A palpable band, nodule, lump, or focal trigger point associated with discomfort
Localised pain with associated redness, sensitivity, altered sensation, or temperature change
Persistent localised discomfort that has been difficult to explain despite prior reviews
If your main concern is “What is this?” (and you want a clear answer and plan), this consultation is designed for you.
To protect clinical quality and keep this service focused, this consultation is not suitable for:
Generalised or widespread pain (whole-body or multi-region pain)
Suspected or diagnosed fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue–associated pain syndromes
Migratory pain (symptoms moving around the body)
Requests for ongoing pain management, repeated supportive care, or long-term follow-up without a defined endpoint
Patients seeking manual therapy (massage-style treatment), wellness programs, or “holistic” pain care
Primary mechanical back/neck pain without a skin/scar/soft-tissue component
If you are unsure, our team can help direct you to the most appropriate service before booking.
We focus on the key elements that drive diagnosis: location, onset, triggers, prior procedures, and what reproduces the symptom.
Examination is directed at skin, scars, superficial soft tissues, and any palpable findings.
Where possible, you will receive a clear diagnosis. If the diagnosis is uncertain, you will be given the most precise working diagnosis and the rationale behind it.
Every consultation ends with a definitive plan
We do not offer open-ended “let’s see how it goes” follow-up.
Depending on findings, outcomes may include:
Reassurance and guidance on what to monitor
A short, defined treatment step when appropriate
Recommendation for specific imaging or tests (when clinically indicated)
Referral to an appropriate specialty (e.g., pain medicine, neurology, physiotherapy, plastic surgery) with clear reasoning
Coordination back to your GP with a written pla
This service is offered within Parkwood Skin Clinic because some symptoms overlap with:
post-procedure or post-excision discomfort
scar-related symptoms
unclear skin/soft-tissue presentations where reassurance alone has not been sufficient
localised symptoms that require careful examination to exclude skin or superficial pathology
